There will be plenty of things to do in Scotland in July as it is the peak holiday season. If you want a more peaceful time and to get away from the crowds, consider taking some of the less well trodden routes or visiting some of the less populated islands. Jura and Colonsay offer the most amazing walks and their beaches and are incredibly peaceful.
Music and cultural events in Scotland in July 2025

11th to 13th July 2025. Attendance is capped at 2000 festival goers, so book early if you want to attend this music festival with an idyllic location on the beautiful island of Tiree. Along with the musical acts, you’ll be able to enjoy the white sand beaches and clear, blue seas of the ‘Hawaii of the North.’ The line up had not been announced at the time of writing so check the Tiree Music Festival website for announcements. There is a camping area set aside for campervans (maximum pitch size is 7m x 5m), book a campervan pitch when buying your ticket. Calmac ferries run to Tiree from Oban. Again, you will need to book ahead.
This long established folk festival, Stonehaven Folk Festival, takes place from the 10th-13th July 2025. Listen to some of the best traditional and contemporary folk music in a stunning, coastal setting. There are many performances, sessions and workshops and singing lessons for all abilities.
Tickets are now on sale for The Kelburn Garden Party. Music lovers will love this event held in the extraordinary grounds of the equally extraordinary Kelburn Castle. This lively festival on the west side of Scotland has an eclectic line up of pop, jazz, groove and electronica with a magical atmosphere. It runs from 3rd-7th July 2025.
The Isle of Lewis is the heartland of Celtic culture in Scotland where Gaelic is still spoken today. It has a strong musical tradition with Gaelic songs being passed down through the generations. So where better to host the Hebridean Celtic Festival. This festival of traditional folk and Gaelic music will be held in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis on 16th – 19th July. Alongside the main festival site on the Lews Castle Green, which has three stages, bars and food stalls, there are events running at several indoor venues in Stornoway.
It’s the 21st Tartan Heart Festival this year. Tartan Heart takes place between 31st July – 2nd August 2025 on the Belladrum Estate, Beauly, Inverness-shire. This is a very popular music festival that has sold out every year for the last 15 years. Performers this year include Texas, Paul Heaton, Example & Tidelines. The Festival accepts campervans but you must purchase a campervan ticket.
ButeFest takes place from 26th – 28th July 2025. This family friendly festival sees three days of live music, entertainment and food at Ettrick Bay on the Isle of Bute. This year there is a circus, storytelling and puppetry, alongside folk, pop and rock musical performers.

The season for Highland Games around the country reaches its peak. There are dozens to choose from. Some of our favourites Luss Highland Gathering on 6th July at Loch Lomond, The Famous Alva Games in Johnstone Park near Stirling on 13th July, the Isle of Mull Highland Games which celebrated its centenary last year and The Inverness Highland Games, a spectacular traditional gathering in the heart of Inverness on 13th July 2024.
