There’s a lot to consider when hiring a campervan in Scotland. This page tells you what you can expect when hiring a campervan in Scotland with Big Sky Campers. We’ll explain what’s included in the campervan hire fee, the booking process and what to expect when you pick up your van.
Our campervans are top of the range VW Highline T6.1s. They are very comfortable and easy to drive, handling like a car. You can choose from either manual or automatic transmissions. Our campers are not as big as motorhomes which mean they are perfect for the narrow single track roads you will encounter in Scotland. Nevertheless they are spacious inside. We have our campervans converted to our own high specification. The layout has been designed for maximum space and comfort and you will find lots of extra luxury touches inside the vans. We also include all the equipment and camping accessories you will need for your holiday in the price of your campervan hire in Scotland.

Who wants to bring or buy lots of equipment when hiring a campervan in Scotland? No one! When you choose Big Sky Campers, all the bedding, equipment and camping kit you will need for your campervanning holiday is included in the price of your campervan hire. We also include as standard some things that other campervan hire companies often charge extra for, such as bike racks, camping stoves and camping furniture.
So when comparing the price of hiring a campervan in Scotland, make sure you are comparing like with like and have factored in the cost of any extra charges into the final price. Big Sky Campers only charge additionally for a few premium extras – insurance for an extra driver, hire of a portaloo & privacy tent, additional 2 person tent or a child seat (booster seats are free). You can also choose to pay an additional £15 per night to reduce your security deposit to £500.

We will try to give you as much support as you need to get the most out of your campervanning holiday in Scotland. The team at Big Sky Campers are always willing to answer any questions you have or give you advice about places to visit or driving routes before and after you book. When you collect the van we will do a thorough handover so you understand how everything works. There is free, secure parking at our HQ for customers. If you are travelling by public transport we can collect you from the nearest station or the Airport bus stop. We encourage our customers to take the time to familiarise themselves with the van and how it drives before setting off on their journey. If you encounter a problem during your hire there is an emergency number to call so you can always get help.
From the moment you book to the end of your holiday we will be on hand with help, advice and support

We sell out of vans in the summer months. Reserve your van with a deposit of just £200. The balance is due one month before you arrive

We will contact you to arrange the time you can collect the van, what documents you need to bring and to invite you to confirm whether you need parking, collection, extra sets of bedding or any other extras
We will contact you to process the security deposit and remind you of any documents you need to send us or bring with you on the day. We need to see proof of address before you take the van out but you can send this to us in advance.
Your security deposit is refundable after the van is returned in the condition you hired it in. For peace of mind you can opt to pay a small additional charge to reduce your deposit and maximum liability to £500. Most of our customers get their deposits back in full because they follow our guidance on Campervan Do’s and Don’ts.
We’ll also send you some useful information about campervanning in Scotland.
You must bring your drivers’ licence with you to collect the van. If you haven’t already sent us proof of address you also need to bring this with you otherwise we won’t be able to release the van.
You can collect your van from 2pm. The van will be set up and ready to go with a gas bottle, full tank of fuel and a full water tank. We will do a thorough handover so you know how everything works and what to do if you encounter any problems.

We don’t charge you extra to bring your dog with you. Most of our campervans are dog friendly but we do keep a small number of vans dog-free to cater for customers with allergies. Our VW campervans sleep 2-4 people. Most carry 4 people but some can carry 5 legally. All our vans are fully equipped, with unlimited mileage and (if they can carry them) bike racks at no extra charge. Most of our campervans are pet friendly, but we do keep a few dog free to cater for people with allergies.
