Message to our Customers

Due to the current situation with Covid-19, we took the very difficult decision that we needed to close temporarily for the safety of our customers and local communities in Scotland. This is a temporary measure and we will have our campers back on the road as soon as it is safe to do so.

In the meantime, we are still here to take enquiries and offer help and advice about future trips to Scotland in happier times. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Whilst the vans are having their own little holiday we would like to offer their use to help with local efforts to transport supplies to vulnerable people or those that are self-isolating. Please get in touch if you are an organisation that would like to use one of our vans.

It will be a tough time for all local businesses in the coming year, and some won’t make it. We’d appreciate your support in these times so please follow us on Facebook or Instagram and stay in touch. We are looking forward to re-opening as soon as possible.

Big Sky Campers

Edinburgh Campervan Hire

Big Sky Campers (formerly Edinburgh Campervans) is a Scottish campervan hire specialist based in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre. As campervan and outdoor enthusiasts, we want to help you experience all the freedom and fun of a campervan holiday in beautiful Scotland. We have a small and lovingly cared for fleet of campervans sleeping between 2 and 4 people, kitted out with everything you’ll need for your trip. Unlike some campervan hire companies, we do not charge for accessories, so the prices we advertise are the prices you pay.

There is no better way to explore Scotland than in your own campervan.  With no schedules or hotel reservations to make, you can go wherever you want and choose when to move on. So if you find that perfect deserted beach, or big night sky, you can just pitch up and stay as long as you want.  With one of our campers you’ll have the freedom to roam wherever you choose. All our vans are left unbranded so as not to spoil the dream. Choose your campervan, and pick up from Edinburgh and discover unspoilt Scotland. We are based in the centre of Edinburgh so it’s convenient for you to pick up your van whether arriving by train or plane.  Or if you are planning to spend a few nights in the city either end of your campervan adventure.

Land Rover Camping Scotland

Our campervans

We have 7 campervans available to hire. Our lovely VWs are Harry, Ruby & Betty. We also have two new automatic VW campervans to hire so new we haven’t named them yet (watch this space). Our stunning Land Rover camper, Wallace, is very popular. We are now also taking bookings for our new budget van, coming soon to replace our much loved and cute Mazda, Bongo. All have very different characters and offer all the fun and ease of a campervan adventure.

The Land Rover camper, Wallace, sleeps 2 and is a real head-turner. If you are looking for an off-road experience then Wallace is the one for you. Our VWs sleep 4 and are fitted out with everything you could need for a comfortable campervan holiday. They are very economical and as easy to drive as a large car. Our budget van is a 2 berther and a bit more basic than the VWs, but great fun, easy to drive and a great choice if you are on a tight budget.

Explore Scotland in a Campervan

Choose one of our vans and for less than the cost of hiring a car and staying in a B&B you can have the freedom of the open road and explore Scotland at your leisure.

Campervan hire Scotland

Our vans come fully equipped

All our vans are fitted out with all the equipment and accessories you will need for a great holiday. Unlike some campervan hire companies, the  hire prices we advertise include kitchen equipment, bedding, towels, bike racks (if available), table and chairs. There are no additional charges for things you can’t do without on a campervan holiday: everything you’ll need is provided. We’ll even throw in a solar shower (please request when booking).  We also make sure you know how to use the van and are entirely comfortable with handling the vehicle before you set off on the open road.

As well as a fully equipped kitchen with fridge freezer*, sink and gas hob, you get an outside table and 2 chairs, a full set of bedding (with extra available on request),  solar shower (on request), extra blanket and hot water bottle for cooler months, towels, portable gas hob for cooking outside (on request), GPS/sat nav, bike rack** and fully comp. insurance for one driver. * Our budget 2 berther has a coolbox only  **Not Harry

Special Requests? Just ask

If you have any special requests, don’t be shy.  Please let us know (the earlier the better, especially in the Summer months!) and we will try to meet them.

No! You can go as far as you like as long as you bring it back on time! If you want to take the van out of the UK it must be by prior arrangement.

You can set up camp in most unenclosed public areas but there are some exceptions which are well signposted (including all passing places on small roads). You must respect the environment, local population and other campers and make sure you bury your poop and take all your rubbish away with you.

Scottish Road Trip Ideas

Visiting the Highlands & Islands?  The NC500?  Touring Scottish heritage sites, making the most of the wide open space to do outdoor activities, or just exploring the beautiful, rugged Scottish landscape at your own pace?  There are so many possibilities when visiting Scotland, sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. So, we’ve put together a few Scottish road trip ideas to get you started. Get in touch with Big Sky Campers if you need help with Campervan hire in Scotland.

If you can’t go on holiday without your pooch, we understand.  You are welcome to bring one dog along at no extra charge. If you do bring your best friend with you, all we ask that they don’t go on the upholstery and you return the vehicle without any sign they were there. All our vans are cleaned thoroughly between hires and we keep some vans dog-free in case of allergies. Bring your four legged friend on holiday this year in one of our campervans.
